Well, hey there, and welcome to Straight from the Stylist Chair. This is a special QA series here on All About Hair. I'm your host, Denise Keilitz, and I'm here to answer the real questions clients ask in the salon so you can feel confident and love every visit. Hi there and welcome back to Straight from the Stylist Chair. This is the QA mini-series on all about hair. And I'm Denise Keilitz, and I'm here to help you feel confident every time you sit in that salon chair. Today's question is a good one, and I hear this all the time. How often should I really get a haircut? Should you be in my chair every six weeks, or can you push it to six months? Let's end the confusion right now. So there are too many opinions online. Some say trim it every six weeks, others swear twice a year is enough. Everybody's different. Everybody's hair is different, and everybody's hair goals are different. And everybody takes care of their hair differently. Wouldn't you agree? Okay, so without a clear plan, people either waste their money with too frequent cuts or they end up with split-ins and shapeless hair. So here is the simple rule we like to follow in the salon: take it or leave it. Short haircuts or layered styles, because those layers are gonna grow out and you're gonna notice them quicker. We always say between six and eight weeks, you should be getting your hair trimmed if you're wanting to maintain that style. If you have medium to long hair, you can usually go eight to 12 weeks. That's two to three months, okay? Totally get it. But you need to be using heat protectin, you need to be brushing it, you need to be taking care of your hair, okay? So what if you're growing it out? And you're like, Denise, I don't want to go get my hair cut because I'm growing it out and I don't want to get split ends. Hey, it's okay. You can stretch for a bit longer, but still have your stylus dust off ends to prevent splits creeping upward. There's actually a technique you can do where you could do a surface layer cutting. I need to do a video on this, where it actually cuts your split ends off, but you're not taking any length off. Ask me about it. If you're curious, I'll do a video. Okay. So look, the deal is you can keep your style looking fresh and your ends healthy and your hair journey on track without overcutting your hair and spending a ton of money doing so. Hey, thanks for hanging out with me today. I hope today's chat helps you walk into your next appointment feeling totally confident.
