I'm your host, Denise Keilitz, and I'm here to answer the real questions clients ask in the salon so you can feel confident and love every visit. Welcome to another Straight from the Stylist Chair episode where I answer you real salon questions. Today's question is why is my scalp so itchy or flaky? Hmm. Your dry, itchy scalp driving you crazy. Let's get to the root of it. Well, look, flakes can feel embarrassing, and that constant itch is just annoying. Most people either overwash, scrub too hard, or they use too harsh of a dandruff shampoo that that doesn't really solve the cause. So first figure out what's going on. Is it dryness? Then you need to use gentle hydrating scalp products. Is it product buildup? Then you need to try a clarifying shampoo once or twice a month. Is it irritation? Then you need to look for fragrance-free soothing options. If it's persistent or really inflamed, then you need to see a dermatologist. They can check for conditions like psoriasis or sebarric dermatitis. When you treat the right cause, your scalp will calm down and your hair will feel fresher longer.
